We are an active and friendly Ladies Club including a growing junior section, with plenty of incredible talent. Hayling Golf Club recently signed up to the R&A Women in Golf charter specifically targeting participation of women, girls and families in golf.
In 2021 Hayling Golf Club was proud to host the English Senior Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship, won by Tracey Williamson of Sheringham Golf Club. Our high calibre links course, the only complete links between Rye and Cornwall ensures we have a free draining course which is playable throughout the year.
We are very proud to be a club that provides ladies course mesurements from all of our on course tees (5 sets of tees in total). This therefore provides a great experience from complete beginner right up to the golfing elite.
We have a packed diary across the year which provides lots of opportunities to play a mixture of both fun and competitive golf on a choice of rated courses for women of differing length and challenge. Our main competition day is on a Thursday morning, with competition tee times also available at the weekends, as well as regular Mixed Stablefords on a Monday.
We participate in County competitions throughout the season and enter teams into the Stoneham Cup and Hayling Trophy competitions. We have numerous 'friendly' fixtures with other clubs, both home and away. It's always great to see a wonderful team spirit and display of camaraderie during these matches and it's an excellent way to meet other golfers and play different courses.
Our current Ladies' Captain, Angie Wyer is supported by
Ann Bailey, Vice Captain, and a committee of volunteers who help manage HLGC, which has its own Constitution with our AGM held in November each year.
The Ladies' Captain organises several events throughout the year and Captain's Day in particular, is an opportunity to raise money for her chosen charity whilst indulging in some fun on the course.
Our Christmas meal, Lady President's Day, and Away Days to other clubs are further golfing and social opportunities, enjoyed by members.

Hayling Island Ladies' Golfing Club was founded on Monday 4th August 1884, is the oldest ladies' club in Hampshire and believed to be the 6th oldest ladies' club in the UK; the oldest being St Andrews Ladies' Golf Club, founded in 1867. It was at this time that Maud Sandeman was appointed as the first Lady Captain and Ella Glas Sandeman MBE as the first Secretary & Treasurer for Hayling Island Ladies' Golfing Club. Maud, who played off scratch, and Ella, were both daughters of the Secretary and Treasurer of Hayling Island Golf Club, John Glas Sandeman. The Hayling Island Ladies established an early dress standard for bright red jackets to be worn when playing. More information about the history of the ladies' club can be found in the history book on display in the Clubhouse.
